What’s so great about flowers?

I never went to art school - I’m self-taught- so when I got the chance to talk to an artist who went to art school, I HAD to know what it was like.

They mentioned while attending school, they knew some artists that were not technically very proficient but very thoughtful in their commentary. Meanwhile there were some incredibly proficient painters that seemed to “spend their skills just painting flowers.”

And I LOVED that.

As pretentious as people might think art people are, this dichotomy is exactly what I enjoy about art.

People have all sorts of opinions on what makes “good” or “bad” art. There’s so many stereotypes about the “uppity art world” and “pop” mainstream art.

The fact of the matter is: you can literally do whatever the f*** you want. It’s art. It’s subjective. People have opinions. BUT they don’t have to be YOUR opinions.

Sometimes a bitch just wants to paint flowers. It’s not that deep.
